Why do we want to construct this playground?
Unstructured and unorganized play is incredibly important in the mental and physical development of our kids. Studies show the importance of kids just being kids and exploring their natural outdoor world. We want to provide our community, and surrounding communities, a safe place to play while connecting them to our accessible trails, restroom, pavilions, lake, and wonderful wildlife habitats. Rotary Playground has provided a great place to play in the past, but it has exceeded its life expectancy. Now, the City of Purcell Parks and Recreation Department is working on a plan to replace the Rotary Playground, and we need your help!
What has been done so far?
The original playground structure was donated to the City of Purcell by the Purcell Rotary Club in the late 1980's. After many years of service, the structure had many issues and was deemed dangerous by the Parks Department and city insurance provider. The structure was dismantled, and planning began in 2020 to replace the structure. In 2021, the City of Purcell applied for a Land and Water Conservation Fund grant to cover 50% of the Rotary Playground Replacement Project costs. In August 2022 we were informed that we were not awarded the grant.
How are we going to make this project happen?
We are asking our community to come together to help make this playground a reality! We believe that this playground is absolutely essential to the health and well-being of our community. We are asking for donations or donation commitments, requesting letters or emails of support, or just call us and let us know you support us moving forward! The City Council and the Park Board are supporting the need for an ADA playground designed for all ages and all abilities and encourage donations and pledges. Every little bit you can do really does help!
What are we planning to build?
- The City of Purcell has a vision to build a new destination playground for ages 2-12 at Purcell Lake.
- Your support will go toward one of three playground designs.
- Deadline to have the opportunity to be a part of this opportunity is October 25th.
